The Toy Museum in Salzburg houses Austria’s biggest collection of historical and famous toys from all over Europe.
For over 25 years, this room holds the “Kasperltheater” puppet show every Tuesday and Wednesday at 3 pm.
A large collection of paper theaters and paper opera characters, some extremely valuable collector’s items, are on display in the museum.
All types of toys are displayed in this 800 square meter museum which was once a public hospital. My favorite part of the museum had to be the remarkable collection of model trains. One room is devoted to a grand HO scale model railroad that operates two locomotives carrying passengers and goods around Salzburg, when you press a button. Even the balloonist is enjoying the trains from high above the city.
The museum has an impressive collection of dolls and magnificent hand-made dollhouses.
We visit the circus toys and costumes display to conclude our memorable visit to this wonderful museum.
