Soaring above the river

Whirlpool Aero Car

We soar across the Great Gorge above the raging Niagara River in the Whirlpool Aero Car.

The Aero Car was designed by Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo and has been operating since 1916.

The car is suspended from six cables and travels about 3600 feet across the gorge.

This antique car carries us across the Niagara Whirlpool below.

The Niagara Whirlpool is a natural whirlpool in the Niagara Gorge downstream from the falls. The whirlpool has a maximum depth of 125 feet.

The whirlpool formed about 4200 years ago by upstream erosion of the Niagara Escarpment by the river.
